FRIENDS WHO YOGA TOGETHER STAY TOGETHER

Yoga Unites.

Yogi BFFs Kathryn & Katelyn have been recording their acro-yoga journey on IG since May with followers over 1,000. They hunt for beautiful locations, practice and train, and finally, take amazing shots and post them on their feed. (WE LOVE THEM SO MUCH!!!) They are not always sober and not always on balance.

We've reached out to them and listened to them talking about their acro journey & friendship.

Tell us a bit about yourselves!

We started as coworkers 2.5 years ago and quickly developed a strong friendship! We found that we both LOVE wine, are super chatty, and jump at the chance to do something active.

When did you start your journey to yoga and acroyoga?

Kathryn started her yoga journey back in 2015 with a solo practice. Her practice became more infrequent in 2018 and is excited to get back to it now! This is her first time dabbling into acro, she is usually the flyer between the two of us.

Katelyn did dance and gymnastics growing up. She didn’t know much about yoga or acroyoga until a few months ago when Kathryn suggested they try it. She quickly fell in love with the challenge and keeps stepping up the difficulty of our poses.

How long does it usually take to learn and practice a new pose?

We are still trying out some of the “basics” and since we are self taught, we don’t always approach a pose the easiest way (lots of funny moments when watching the videos later one). Some poses only take a few tries, however other ones might take multiple sessions.

We have plenty of fail videos, but have used each one to improve! We are working to gain greater flexibility, strength, and body control so we can achieve the more difficult poses.

What’s the most rewarding part about practicing acro?

Since we both have different backgrounds, it has been amazing to see how we utilize our strengths and create something beautiful! We now have something new to explore together and we shock ourselves with how fast we are learning this new activity!

The most difficult?

Since we are new, we have trouble recognizing what poses are beyond our current capabilities... we have a couple spills and realize we should save it for another day! This sport requires a lot of time for training and with our busy schedules it can be hard to plan.

Finding beautiful locations can also be a challenge and can sometime mean waking up at 3am to drive to the beach. Words we live by: “do it for the gram” :):)

How has yoga affected your relationship with each other?

We have never been closer - quite literally. It takes it to another level when we are grabbing each other’s butts and falling on our faces! 😂😂😂

We have discovered each other’s strengths and can use those to grow both in our yoga and in our friendship ❤️ ...

Sadly, it gives us less time to drink wine 🍷😂
