What Are Padded Cycling Shorts?

As you can clearly tell by the name, padded cycling shorts are not like your regular shorts. They contain padding in the right spots, which means that they offer excellent comfort to the riders. They’re tight-fitting. Padded cycling shorts are breathable and are known to block wind and allow the rider to pedal without any restrictions. They aren’t made out of regular fabric. The light spandex material that goes into making these cycling shorts is aerodynamic, which contributes to making long rides on the bicycle super-comfortable.

Padded Cycling Shorts Increase Cycling Comfort - It’s A FACT

Baleaf Padded bike shorts

The usual shorts that athletes wear are stitched in a way that there is a seam running underneath their crotch. This part of the shorts sits on top of the bike saddle directly and is prone to receiving most of the body’s pressure. As you pedal and move about, your body weight shifts continuously, causing the seam of the shorts to rub against your crotch area. The constant rubbing and friction cause serious irritation, chafing, and discomfort.

However, that isn’t the case with padded cycling shorts. These shorts have pads sewn on the inner side at all the spots that receive the most pressure, including the crotch. Moreover, they are made of spandex material that is extremely elastic and stretchy. So, no matter how much you move or how bumpy the ride is, the stretchy material stretches without causing any fabric shift, whereas the cycling pads absorb the pressure.

Hence, padded cycling shorts ensure that all the points of your crotch and thing region don’t receive any form of rubbing friction or pressure that may lead to chafing and rashes, thereby making your bicycle riding experience comfortable and fun!

YOU Need A Pair Of Padded Cycling Shorts / Tights

If you’re an avid bicycle rider, you most definitely need a pair of padded bike shorts. It comes with numerous benefits that you’re going to thank us for later!

Removes Pressure Points

As we’ve already discussed above, padded cycling shorts remove the pressure points in your crotch area and make riding a bicycle a lot more comfortable. The sewn pads on the inner side absorb the shock, and the elastic material reduces the friction of the fabric against your skin. With padded cycling shorts on, you don’t have to worry about chafing your sensitive body parts and ride the bicycle all you want.

Controls Vibrations

Road shock is a high-frequency vibration that’s generated as a result of the rubber tires rolling on an uneven surface. Even if the road appears to be smooth, vibration will be produced when the tires of the cycle roll over it. These high-frequency vibrations make their way from the tires to your body through your bike’s frame, which causes pain and discomfort while cycling. But the padding in the padded cycle shorts absorb these waves and dampen the impact. The padding disperses the high-frequency waves, thereby dispersing the shock. If you’re wearing padded cycle shorts, you won’t feel the usual pain you do when you cycle in your regular cotton shorts.

Wicks Away Moisture

We all know how uncomfortable the moisture in the crotch and thigh area can be. Not only is it uncomfortable and annoying, but it’s also a major reason why rashes develop. However, there isn’t much to worry about if you’re wearing padded cycling shorts. The padding in the crotch area absorbs the moisture and keeps you dry down there, making your bicycle ride comfortable and fun.

Baleaf Cycling Bottoms Feature Chamois Padding

Baleaf is dedicated to providing fitness enthusiasts everything they need for efficient workouts. The cycling bottoms that Baleaf features a chamois padding, which is, by far, the best type of padding for cycling bottoms.

Chamois was initially referred to as a piece of leather sewn inside the riding shorts around the crotch to keep the riders’ thighs and crotch region from getting chafed. The leather used back in the day was obtained from the European-native antelope-goat called a chamois. That’s how the leather obtained from its skin got its name.

However, the chamois has developed and modified over the years. Today, chamois padding refers to padding made from a synthetic material filled with foam or gel. The chamois padding reduces the friction that riders feel between their legs and offers the ultimate support and comfort.

Chamois padding offers the much-needed support to the genitals and keeps the sensitive areas from any sort of impact, shock, and high-frequency vibrations. It keeps your crotch area from getting sore from long riding excursions.
